- "It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die."
The Scorpio Races are races for the capaill uisce and are run every year on the 1st November. They take place on the beaches in Skarmouth.
Race season[]
Preparation begins in October, when the capaill uisce emerge from the sea. Racers begin training either their horses from previous years, or freshly caught ones captured in great hunting parties. The island suddenly becomes a map of safe areas and unsafe areas, as the horses are wild and unpredictable and are extremely dangerous if they go out of control. Potential casualties include fishermen, livestock and riders themselves.
Riders[]
The riders wear racing colours - a saddlecloth and armband - to allow spectators on the cliff to identify them.
